How to Detail Your Car

Cleaning a car seat
If you know how to detail your car, you can make it easier to sell to Grosse Pointe drivers and nicer to drive between St. Clair Shores and Sterling Heights. You’re just making some cosmetic touch-ups, but they can go a long way.

How to Detail Your Car Interior

  • Strip the Interior: Before you start cleaning, remove floor mats, the rear parcel shelf, and anything else that can be removed from the interior. Getting them out of the way helps provide access to every area and prevents dirt hiding. Wash them separately before putting them back.
  • Start With the Cupholders: These are usually an interior’s dirtiest spot. Make sure you get right into the corners, and don’t leave the cupholders until last since you’ll probably spread anything stuck at the bottom around the surrounding area.
  • Use Compressed Air: Once you’ve picked up any old bits and pieces, you’ll wanted to blast away accumulated dust from buttons and other crevices. Using compressed air makes that easy – after blasting it away, vacuum as soon as possible.
  • Deep Clean Your Fabrics: Any carpeting can be lightly sprayed with a foaming aerosol cleaner. Once the cleaner starts to dry, you can remove it with a vacuum. Find manufacturer recommended cleaners for your seating upholstery.
  • Replace Holes, Burns, and Stains: If there are any small spots on your carpet from holes, burns, or permanent stains, cut around them with a razor blade, then replace that section with a piece taken from somewhere out of sight, such as underneath a seat. A water-resistant adhesive will keep it down.
  • Use Detailing Brushes on Your Vents: If there’s dust in the vents, your vehicle is going to get dirty again much faster than you’d like. Use detailing brushes with a super-absorbent material, then spray your vents with vinyl dressing to make them look new.
